LIRA, UGANDA (2025) – In a significant step toward improving health and rural development, Divine Agency for Integrated Development (DivineAid) is proud to announce the launch of a new, three-year water initiative in Dokolo District.
This ambitious project is set to transform the landscape of water access in the region through the construction of 39 new deep-well boreholes. Once completed, the initiative will provide reliable, clean drinking water to thousands of residents across underserved sub-counties where community members—predominantly women and children—currently travel long distances to fetch water from unprotected and contaminated sources.
Focus on Sustainability and Community Ownership
Unlike traditional aid models, DivineAid’s 2025 initiative is built on a foundation of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) and long-term sustainability. The project will not simply install hardware; it will empower local residents to become stewards of their own resources.
Key components of the initiative include:
- Water Source Committees: Each of the 39 new wells will be managed by a locally elected committee, trained by DivineAid in basic maintenance, financial management, and sanitation protocols.
- Community Engagement: By working directly with local leaders and residents during the planning and construction phases, the project ensures high levels of community ownership and accountability.
- Health and Hygiene Integration: The construction phase will be accompanied by hygiene promotion and the formation of Community Health Clubs to maximize the health benefits of the new clean water sources.
Restoring Hope in Northern Uganda
“This expansion into Dokolo is a core part of our mission to keep ‘Community Hope Alive’,” said a DivineAid representative. “By securing water access for the next three years and beyond, we are giving families the time and health they need to focus on education, farming, and economic growth.”
The Dokolo project aligns with DivineAid’s broader strategic shift toward integrated programming, which combines safe water access with environmental restoration and livelihood support.
