LIRA, UGANDA – Sustainable development is not built through isolated projects, but through strong, accountable systems. As part of our 10-year strategic plan, Divine Agency for Integrated Development (DivineAid) is intensifying its efforts to strengthen Local Government Capacity and amplify the voices of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Northern Uganda.
We believe that for water and sanitation services to last a generation, local authorities must have the tools to manage them, and citizens must have the platforms to hold them accountable.
Empowering Local Authorities
DivineAid is actively conducting specialized training sessions for Local Government units. These programs focus on:
- Integrated Planning: Helping district officials incorporate Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) priorities into long-term development budgets.
- Asset Management: Providing technical frameworks to monitor the functionality of rural water sources and plan for timely repairs.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Training officers on how to use field data to identify underserved areas and allocate resources more equitably.
Amplifying the Voice of Civil Society
A healthy development sector requires a seat at the table for everyone. DivineAid is a proud advocate for the participation of WASH CSOs in district-level planning and accountability forums.
By facilitating coordination between CSOs and government actors, we are:
- Reducing Duplication: Ensuring that different organizations aren’t working in the same village while others are left behind.
- Enhancing Accountability: Creating transparent channels where CSOs can share community feedback directly with policy-makers.
- Advocacy for the Underserved: Bringing the needs of former IDPs and rural households to the forefront of district agendas.
Building a Sustainable Future
“Our goal is to eventually work ourselves out of a job,” says the DivineAid Advocacy Lead. “When local governments are strong and civil society is engaged, communities have the power to sustain their own progress. This is the essence of keeping Community Hope Alive.”
By bridging the gap between grassroots needs and government planning, DivineAid is ensuring that the infrastructure we build today remains functional and funded for years to come.
