LIRA, UGANDA (December 2024) – Divine Agency for Integrated Development (DivineAid) is thrilled to announce the successful completion of a pivotal phase of the “Improving Lives Through WASH, Economic Empowerment and Environmental Protection” initiative.
Implemented in partnership with the Ryan’s Well Foundation, this project represents a holistic approach to rural development, addressing the interconnected challenges of water scarcity, poverty, and climate change in Northern Uganda.
Integrated Impact: Beyond Just Water
This phase of the project has delivered life-changing results across multiple sectors, ensuring that the benefits of clean water are supported by strong community structures and economic opportunities.
Our Achievements at a Glance:
- Clean Water Access: Construction of 13 new water sources, providing safe, reliable drinking water to thousands of households and reducing the burden of waterborne diseases.
- Health & Hygiene: Formation of 13 Community Health Clubs. These clubs serve as hubs for hygiene education, ensuring that clean water is handled safely and that sanitation practices improve at the household level.
- Economic Empowerment: Establishment of 13 Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups. By providing a platform for local savings and small-scale credit, these groups empower residents—especially women—to invest in their businesses, pay school fees, and build financial resilience.
Climate Action for a Sustainable Future
In line with DivineAid’s commitment to environmental sustainability, this initiative took a bold step toward climate adaptation. Through the newly formed Village Environmental Protection Committees (VEPC), the project successfully planted 13,000 trees.
These trees will play a vital role in restoring local ecosystems, protecting water catchment areas, and providing a buffer against the increasing effects of climate change, such as soil erosion and unpredictable weather patterns.
A Partnership for Progress
“The success of this phase demonstrates what is possible when community-led action meets dedicated international partnership,” said a DivineAid Program Manager. “By combining WASH with economic and environmental tools, we aren’t just solving today’s problems—we are building a foundation for a self-sufficient tomorrow.”
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Ryan’s Well Foundation and the local government stakeholders whose collaboration made these results possible. Together, we are keeping Community Hope Alive.
